Fishing in the Chernivtsi region
Chernivtsi region is located in the south-west of Ukraine. The boundaries of the area resemble a triangle. It should be noted that here the highest point of flat Ukraine is the mountain with such familiar Zaporozhian name as Berda (515 meters above sea level). The relief of the region is characterized by various forms, since it is located at the junction of the Russian Plain and the Carpathians. The highest point of the region is Mount Yarovitsa 1574 meters above sea level.
The main rivers of the Chernivtsi region are the Dniester and the Prut. It is believed that this region is not rich in fish stocks, but I recommend visiting it as a tourist attraction. This is especially true for the city of Chernivtsi and Khotyn fortress. And if you come here in the winter, on New Year’s holidays (January 13), you will be able to touch the unique Day of Saint Melania. This is sure to be remembered even for experienced tourists!
As for the region’s water resources, they are represented by rivers (4240 units), of which 79, over 10 km in length, and artificial reservoirs – 1,243 pieces and reservoirs (4).

Where to go fishing in Chernivtsi region?
The Dniester River and the Dniester Reservoir are the most popular reservoirs of fishermen in the region. Here you can catch сommon bleak, asp, chub, perch and pike. Also in this river there is a small amount of bream, perch and carp. The Prut River is less preferable for fishing and has more complex fishing conditions. Stormy waters are a serious obstacle for fishermen. This is especially pronounced in the spring and during the rainy season.
Artificial closed ponds are probably the most preferred places for fishing. The main part of the ponds is used for breeding carp.
Fans of sport fishing can recommend several water bodies: the competitions are held in the villages of Magala and Lukovtsi, as well as in the Komarovsky Lake.
There are no salt ponds in the region, so it is sufficient to use standard fishing lines, hooks, fishing rods and drums. Currently, local fishermen usually use fishing rods, feeders and spinnings.
Do good …
And throw it into the water … I want to draw your attention to the fact that now the principle of “Catch – release” is very popular in Ukraine. This is promoted by the coolest sportsmen, bloggers and TV presenters. What’s the point of this? It’s very simple: fishing is a pleasure, and every participant of the process must get his portion. And the fish, including 🙂 So do not hesitate to let go of the fish.
I do not urge you to completely abandon the use of the fish that you caught. No! Fish soup and fried crucian, it’s very cool! I just encourage the fishermen to treat the fish with reverence.
And do not forget the catch quota! During the day you can get no more than 3 kg from the public pond. That’s enough!
