Fishing in the Ivano-Frankivsk region
The Ivano-Frankivsk region is located at the junction of the East European Plain and the Carpathian Mountains and is located in the west of Ukraine. The relief of the north-western and eastern parts is pologovolnistye plains, the western part – the hills. The climate here is mostly moderately continental, only in the Carpathians it is more severe, moist and varies considerably with altitude. The highest point of the region is Mount Goverla, 2061 meters above sea level.
The main rivers of the region are the Dniester and the Prut. Here they are characterized by: a high water in the spring and rain in the summer. Also, fishermen should take into account that the rivers in the region are used not only for the production of hydropower, but also for felling the forest. In total, 8321 rivers flow in the Ivano-Frankivsk region.
Artificially created reservoirs in the area of 1367. Of these, 3 are used as reservoirs.

Where to go fishing in the Ivano-Frankivsk region?
Great idea – go fishing on the river Prut. Here there are not common trout typical for the rest of Ukraine, Common nase and barbel. Only I must warn you that over the city of Delyatyn on the Prut River there is a protected area, so fishing is forbidden there. In the area of the town of Kolomyya, fish are found on numerous bays and on rifts. Here, mainly, the chub and the asp are caught.
The second most popular among local fishermen is the Dniester. In this region it is a meandering river with a powerful current, so take care of the appropriate equipment and go here to catch pike perch, pike and bream.
In numerous ponds and lakes in the region, fishermen usually crucian, roach and bream. In special ponds, there is enough domestic carp and white cupids.
I also recommend visiting the Burshtyn reservoir and the Burshtyn canal – a very interesting place for feeder lovers.
There are no salt ponds in the region, so it is sufficient to use standard fishing lines, hooks, fishing rods and drums. Currently, local fishermen usually use fishing rods, feeders and spinnings.
Do good …
And throw it into the water … I want to draw your attention to the fact that now the principle of “Catch – release” is very popular in Ukraine. This is promoted by the coolest sportsmen, bloggers and TV presenters. What’s the point of this? It’s very simple: fishing is a pleasure, and every participant of the process must get his portion. And the fish, including 🙂 So do not hesitate to let go of the fish.
I do not urge you to completely abandon the use of the fish that you caught. No! Fish soup and fried crucian, it’s very cool! I just encourage the fishermen to treat the fish with reverence.
And do not forget the catch quota! During the day you can get no more than 3 kg from the public pond. That’s enough!
